Select Important Safety Information

  • CIALIS is contraindicated in patients using any form of organic nitrate, either regularly and/or intermittently, as the combination could cause a sudden, unsafe drop in blood pressure.
  • CIALIS is contraindicated in patients with a known serious hypersensitivity to CIALIS or ADCIRCA® (tadalafil). Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and exfoliative dermatitis.
  • Patients should not use CIALIS if sex is inadvisable due to cardiovascular status. Advise patients to seek immediate medical help if they experience symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, or nausea during sex.
  • Use of CIALIS with alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, or substantial amounts of alcohol (≥5 units) may lead to hypotension. For the treatment of BPH, CIALIS is not recommended in combination with alpha-blockers. Caution is advised when CIALIS is used as a treatment for ED in men taking alpha-blockers.
  • CIALIS for once daily use provides continuous plasma levels, which should be considered when evaluating the potential for interactions.
  • Prior to initiating treatment with CIALIS for BPH, consideration should be given to other urological conditions that may cause similar symptoms. In addition, prostate cancer and BPH may coexist.

CIALIS is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and ED and the signs and symptoms of BPH (ED+BPH).

Consider CIALIS 5 mg for once daily use for patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) who are at a point where they want to treat their urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

Proposed mechanism of action: CIALIS enhances erectile function through phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibition and increased cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) concentration, which results in relaxation of penile arteries and corpus cavernosal smooth muscle, and, in turn, increased blood flow to the corpus cavernosum. PDE5 is found in the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum, prostate, and bladder. The effect of PDE5 inhibition on cGMP concentration in the corpus cavernosum and pulmonary arteries is also observed in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder and in their vascular supply. The mechanism for reducing BPH symptoms has not been established.1

CIALIS 5 mg for once daily use for ED+BPH:

  • A once daily therapy that resulted in improvement in total IPSS score (see clinical trial design for definition) in men with both ED and BPH1
  • Significant improvement in EF domain of the IIEF questionnaire and SEP 3§ in men with both ED and BPH1
  • As a treatment for BPH, CIALIS is not recommended in combination with alpha-blockers1

*Individual results may vary. Not studied for multiple attempts per dose.

The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) is a 4-week recall questionnaire administered at the beginning and end of a placebo run-in period and subsequently at follow-up visits after randomization. It assesses the severity of irritative (frequency, urgency, and nocturia) and obstructive (incomplete emptying, stopping and starting, weak stream, and pushing or straining) symptoms, with scores ranging from 0 to 35. Higher numeric scores represent greater severity.1

The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) is a 4-week recall questionnaire that was administered at the end of a treatment-free baseline period and subsequently at follow-up visits after randomization. The erectile function (EF) domain of the IIEF has a 30-point total score. Higher numeric scores reflect better erectile function.1

§Sexual Encounter Profile, question 3 (SEP 3) is a yes/no question: “Did your erection last long enough for you to have successful intercourse?”1
